Exhibition: ¡OJO!

AFA Space

¡OJO! is the first wearable shoe collection by SOPHIA GUGGENBERGER. Built layer by layer, the construction of the shoes is the defining element of their form and character. She aims to visualize a design approach based on the materials and techniques used. ¡OJO! moves away from highly industrialized, smooth objects, toward structured and versatile companions. (Almost) all materials are bio-based. The components are detachable, repairable, and can be disposed of individually.

The exhibition at AFA Space presents the collection in its current state. What happens next? How can the production process be integrated into local infrastructures? How can the shoes become part of local resource and knowledge systems?

Sophia Guggenberger was supported by the AFA Support program in 2022 to develop the ¡OJO! shoe collection, based on an experimental-creative, circular, and responsible fashion design practice.

Sophia Guggenberger studied fashion, shoe, and product design in Vienna, London, and Berlin. She worked as a designer for the shoe company Camper in Spain. Since 2015, she has worked as a freelance designer, exploring production as a tool for transformation. She has received several grants, including from the Akademie Schloss Solitude, the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport, and the EU. Her work focuses on sustainability and the development of multiperspective solutions for the design and manufacturing of products with a holistic approach to social, technical, and material aspects.
