Christina Seewald discusses feminism, gender roles, and friendship:
HOW TO FASHION is a project by the Austrian Fashion Association in collaboration with the Vienna Business Agency.
In the third episode of the video series HOW TO FASHION, Christina Seewald, fashion designer and founder of the Vienna-based knitwear label Christina Seewald talks about femininity and feminism, gender roles, and friendship.
Born in Graz, Christina Seewald studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Textile Design and later completed her master’s in Fashion for Knitwear. After working with brands such as Lena Hoschek, Tata Naka, and Helen Lawrence, she founded her knitwear label under her own name in 2019. Her label stands for both sophistication and quality while also aiming to be provocative.
By combining the finest yarns with perfect tailoring, Seewald seeks to create modern knitwear and translate it into a contemporary, radical look. Her focus is on traditional techniques and contemporary knitting art, with an emphasis on sustainability.
Christina Seewald addresses socio-political themes in her collections. The interplay of female vulnerability and self-determined feminism is central to her work, embodied as a symbiosis in her label.
Christina Seewald was awarded the Modepreis der Stadt Wien (Fashion Prize of the City of Vienna) in 2020.
