On Wednesday, September 10, costume designer Monika Buttinger will be the guest of the AFA Careers Talk. She will speak about her professional journey, the unique aspects of her work, her creative approach to character development in film, and what makes a truly great costume.
Following the talk, the AFA Movie Club, in cooperation with Burg Kino, will present a screening of Perla, directed by Alexandra Makarová — a film for which Monika Buttinger received the 2025 Diagonale Award for Best Costume Design.

Monika Buttinger is a renowned Austrian costume designer whose distinctive visual style and intuitive understanding of character, period, and atmosphere have shaped the look of numerous award-winning film and theatre productions.
For over two decades, she has collaborated with acclaimed directors such as Marie Kreutzer, Ulrich Seidl, Jessica Hausner, and Götz Spielmann. Her most influential works include the internationally recognized films Corsage (2022), The Ground Beneath My Feet (2019), Angelo (2018), We Used to Be Cool (2016), and Gruber Is Leaving (2015).
Monika Buttinger has received multiple awards for her work and is known for her collaborative spirit, meticulous attention to detail, and her ability to bring characters to life through fabric, form, and color.
